NORTH RIDGEVILLE — An Elyria man died Sunday from injuries sustained in a single-car crash.
Gordon Willis, 68, driving a 2006 black Ford Taurus, was traveling westbound on state Route 10 when he exited onto the alternative state Route 83 ramp at 3:37 p.m. Sunday.
According to North Ridgeville police Capt. Marti Garrow, a witness said the vehicle was swerving on the ramp before landing in the westbound ravine after crossing over alternate state Route 83.
“He may have had a medical condition. We will know more after the coroner completes the autopsy,” Garrow said Monday.
Garrow said Willis was unconscious, but had a pulse and CPR was administered. He was flown to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, where he later died.
Willis’ daughter, Jessica Willis, said her dad loved spending time with his grandchildren and taking care of her mom.
“He never complained about going to pick up a kid from school or a school function,” Willis said of her dad.
Willis’ wife, Teresa (nee Morency), is still recovering from a broken hip in a rehabilitation facility. Jessica Willis said her dad did everything he could to lift her spirits.
“He never complained about taking my mom to all her appointments and visiting her in the hospital and rehab,” Jessica said. “He told me a few months ago that he just wanted to take care of his wife the same way my grandfather took care of my grandma when she got sick years ago. He wasn’t in the best health himself, but he did everything he could possibly do for my mom.”
