LORAIN — Police are investigating an aggravated burglary incident Wednesday that involves conflicting stories and a fight that left blood in several rooms of a home on Elyria Avenue.
Officers arrested a suspect, identified as Jordan Corbin, 29, of 22nd Street, at Mercy Regional Medical Center after the incident, according to a police report.
The victim told police that she knew Corbin from a romantic relationship they had in high school and they had reconnected recently as friends. This made her boyfriend upset and tensions escalated between the two men until Wednesday afternoon when Corbin arrived at their door, according to the report.
The victim, her boyfriend and her two children were in her house on Elyria Avenue when Corbin rang the doorbell, according to her written statement. The victim said they didn’t answer the door and less than a minute later, Corbin reportedly attempted to break into the house through a window leading to the bathroom.
The victim said she saw two black males enter the home and attack her boyfriend, one of whom she identified as Corbin. She hid in a room with her two children until one of the suspects started beating down the door. Before getting into the room, the suspect returned to fighting the boyfriend. The distraction allowed her to leave the room with her children and sneak upstairs and call the police, she said.
The fight continued until officers arrived about 2:30 p.m. and handcuffed them both. The report did not mention what happened to the second assailant when the police arrived.
Corbin provided police with a different version of events. He said he received a text from the victim earlier that day asking him to come to her house to drink. Corbin said he agreed and his cousin dropped him off. When he arrived, Corbin said, the victim invited him inside and the boyfriend attacked him without warning, accusing him of having sex with the victim. After the initial strike, he said the two fought until the police arrived.
When asked about the texts, Corbin said his phone was acting up and somehow deleted them and he didn’t have an answer how the windows were broken, according to the report.
Both men were transported to Mercy Regional Medical Center for treatment. According to the report, the boyfriend was bloodied with a slashed left thumb and a right eye nearly swollen shut and Corbin had multiple contusions and lacerations, including one on his forehead that required stitches.
Corbin was processed and lodged in the Lorain City Jail but was released on a $50,000 bond Thursday early afternoon.
