ELYRIA – A man is in custody after allegedly stabbing another man when the two got in an argument over crack cocaine.

Richard Jackson Jr., 51, is charged with felonious assault, abduction, and disrupting a public service, all felony charges.

Capt. Chris Costantino said Jackson and his neighbor were hanging out in the neighbor’s apartment in the Chestnut Street apartments drinking beers and decided to do some crack. Jackson left at one point to use the bathroom and when he came back he accused his neighbor of taking some of the crack and then stabbed him in the chest with a knife, Costantino said.

When the neighbor tried to leave, Jackson punched him. The neighbor eventually made it to his bedroom where there was a distress button and was able to get help, Costantino said.

The neighbor was taken to the hospital and later flown to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland where he is in stable condition.

Jackson appears in a medical gown in his mug shot, Costantino said, because he complained of chest pains when police arrived. He was medically released and taken to jail after being checked out, Costantino said, and has an arraignment scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Dec. 6.
