AVON – Police say a number of Amazon packages found by Avon East Elementary this week were likely left there by a driver who quit in the middle of making deliveries.
All of the packages, there were about 10, have made it to their final destinations, said Jim Drozdowski, Avon Police public information officer.
Though Drozdowski tried to pin the incident on a mishap with Santa’s sleigh, detectives say the packages were being delivered from an Amazon fulfillment center in Euclid and “they feel it’s a driver who, just for one reason or another, abandoned the packages,” Drozdowski said.
None of the packages were opened and when police contacted the recipients, those who ordered the packages said they received an email saying there was a delay with delivery.
Drozdowski said the packages were set to be delivered to homes in Avon and Westlake.
“The driver must have just gotten frustrated and quit and decided this was a good place to drop them,” Drozdowski said.
A spokesman for Amazon said the company is investigating the incident. Amazon works with several different couriers at its fulfillment center and was not able to immediately say which was responsible for these packages.
