Lorain police seek officer impersonator

LORAIN — Police are searching for a man who was impersonating a police officer Wednesday morning.

A car flashing blue and red lights pulled a vehicle over near a Convenient Food Mart on West Erie Avenue about 7 a.m., according to a police report.

The man approached the vehicle’s door and asked for the female driver’s license and registration. The victim said he seemed nervous, rocking back and forth, according to the report.

When she asked him the reason he pulled her over, he reportedly stated:

“I could give you a ticket, but what would you be willing to do to avoid it?”

This made the victim uncomfortable and she asked for his name, badge number and supervisor’s name. The suspect didn’t say anything, ran back to his car, made a U-turn and drove west on West Erie Avenue, according to the report.

The man is described as a 5-foot-7 black man with mocha skin, late 30s to early 40s, with a stocky build and a short goatee. He wore a black police uniform, with a trooper-style hat, utility belt with handcuffs. No gun or radio was reportedly seen.
