Elyria police seek suspect who fired at cars downtown

ELYRIA – Police are looking for a suspect who shot at a father and daughter, striking both their cars and grazing the father with a bullet.

Police were called to Ely Square by the old courthouse about shots fired but could not find any victims or suspects. Shortly after, Capt. Chris Costantino said, a call came in from University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center about a man who had been shot.

The man, 47, told police that his wife had received a phone call from their 19-year-old daughter saying she had been assaulted. The man told police he went to the area where his daughter was calling from and -- as he was helping her -- a car pulled up and someone in it fired six to seven shots at them. Police said one of the bullets went through the glass on the car, and hit the man but because he was wearing heavy winter clothing the bullet was slowed and it “grazed him,” Costantino said. The daughter was not injured by the bullets but did have marks from being assaulted.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at (440) 323-3302.
