ELYRIA – Three people were arrested for stealing from Dick’s Sporting Goods and confessed to several other thefts in the area, according to police.
Traven Pruitt, 29, is charged with theft and criminal trespass; Oronde Holt, 40, is charged with theft; and Angelique Gage, 25, is charged with theft and contempt of court.
Capt. Chris Costantino said all three will likely face additional charges.
According to police, the trio entered Dick’s Sporting Goods on Tuesday. Two of the three waited by the door while the third went to steal merchandise, Costantino said, allowing the person stealing merchandise a quick get away because the other two were waiting and holding open the door.
Costantino said they took about $1,700 worth of merchandise.
Security at the store took down the license plate of the car the suspects left in and police were able to track to vehicle to Lorain where all three were arrested.
Costantino said police discovered “quite a bit of stolen property” in the house and the suspects confessed to thefts from Dick’s Sporting Goods in other locations.
“I’m hoping this sends a strong message to people that want to do this that the police department will aggressively pursue these crimes,” Costantino said.
Elyria police will be sending a bulletin about the arrests to other agencies with outstanding thefts and additional charges are likely, Costantino said.
