Man dies from injuries after being struck by car outside hospital

ELYRIA – A man who police say was hit by a car while walking out of the emergency room has died from his injuries.

Robert Gray Jr., 58, of Island Road, Grafton, died today, Thursday, nearly a week after a woman delivering for Pizza Hut struck him the crosswalk in front of University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center.

According to police, Gray and his ex-wife Samantha Gray were leaving the emergency room and walking to the parking garage when Christina Gringle, 30, of Harvard Avenue, struck the pair at about 8 p.m. Friday.

Both were flown to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland where Samantha Gray was treated for minor injuries and released.

Capt. Chris Costantino said the crash is still under investigation and no charges have been filed.
