ELYRIA — Police continue to investigate an crash at the crosswalk in front of University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center on Friday night that left a man in critical condition.
Capt. Chris Costantino said Christina Gringle, 30, of Harvard Avenue, Elyria, was delivering for Pizza Hut at about 8 p.m. Friday when her vehicle struck Robert Gray Jr., 48, and Samantha Gray, 44, both of Island Road, Grafton, as they were leaving the emergency room. Costantino said they were walking in a crosswalk to the parking garage.
The Grays were flown to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland where Samantha Gray was treated for her injuries and released, but Robert Gray remains in critical condition, Costantino said.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation and no citations have been issued, Costantino said.Drugs and alcohol are not factors in the crash, Costantino said.
Shortly after that crash, at 10:47 p.m., a woman leaving the parking lot rapidly accelerated and struck a tree on East River Street.
Willetta Garcia, 66, of State Street, Vermilion, told police that the car’s throttle stuck and was uncontrollable. She suffered non-incapacitating injuries and was treated at UH Elyria.
Both accidents caused the road to be closed for several hours while police investigated.
