ELYRIA – A man with a butcher knife was arrested Saturday after police say he stabbed his mother’s boyfriend and then attempted a carjacking at McDonald’s.

According to a police report, Brandel Baylock, 24, of Vine Street, Elyria, stabbed his mother’s boyfriend and then attempted to steal someone’s car in McDonald’s with the same knife on Saturday.

Police were assisting the State Highway Patrol with a traffic stop around 11:49 p.m. on Broad Street when a car pulled up and a man inside said that Baylock had just attempted to steal his car. The back driver’s side window was broken out, the police said.

At the same time, police were told by a dispatcher that Baylock was standing in the middle of the road with a large butcher knife.

As police approached Baylock they could see that he was bleeding from his right arm. Officers ordered Baylock to drop the knife and get down on the ground and he was handcuffed without incident, the report said.

While in custody, Baylock told police that he stabbed someone on Ninth Street.

When officers got to Ninth Street, Johnny Boone said Baylock is his girlfriend’s son. Boone told police that he was sleeping and he woke up to Baylock in his bedroom. Boone said when he got out of bed Baylock charged at him with the knife and attempted to stab him in the stomach, the report said. Boone told police he blocked the knife with his hand and police could see a “severe” cut to his right hand, the report said.

Baylock’s mother, Melissa Truxall, told police that Baylock is homeless and she and Boone were letting him stay with them for a few days. Truxall told police that Baylock has a drug problem “and that he has been smoke crack recently,” the report said.

Baylock is charged with felonious assault and robbery.
