AVON — The wife of the man police accused of shooting another man in the Technifab parking lot Thursday told a 911 dispatcher that it was her "soon to be ex" who shot her friend.
The woman, who said on the 911 call that her name is Brittany Avalos, tells police "My friend was shot by my ex, my soon to be ex."
Police responded to the Technifab parking lot on Chester Road Industrial Parkway at about 8:30 a.m. Thursday and then, shortly after, to a multi-car crash at the intersection of Colorado and Carleen avenues.
Police said they were able to link the shooting to the crash fairly quickly and arrested Joshua Avalos, 28, of Lorain at the scene of the crash.
According to the 911 call, Brittany Avalos said Joshua Avalos was driving a black Mazda 6 and the man he allegedly shot, Kevin Fenderson, 37, of Elyria, was driving a tan Buick Lacrosse.
At the scene of the crash, the Mazda, with heavy front end damage, had come to rest in the middle of the intersection and the tan Buick, with its back window blown out, went head first into the tree line next to the gazebo on Colorado Avenue.
Police said Fenderson was taken to the hospital where he had surgery for a single bullet wound to the back and released the same day. Joshua Avalos was also taken to the hospital for injuries sustained in the car crash and then taken to the Lorain County Jail.
Joshua Avalos is charged with aggravated felonious assault and vehicular assault.
In the 911 call, Brittany Avalos tells the dispatcher that she was on the phone the phone with one of the men when it happened, but it's not clear which one.
She says on the call that she tried to get a hold of somebody to get out to the Technifab but she couldn't reach anyone.
"I was on the phone with him when it happened," Brittany Avalos tells dispatch. Through sobs she asks, "Do they have him? Is he ok?"
The investigation into the shooting and the car crash is ongoing and police said more charges could be filed against Avalos.
