Abline Cannon, 37, also is charged with murder, kidnapping, aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary, felonious assault, tampering with evidence and having weapons under disability in the killing of 23-year-old David Barriero.

Lorain police have said officers were sent to Barriero’s Shore Drive apartment after they received calls reporting loud banging and gunshots.

Barriero was found dead inside the apartment.

Police have said Cannon went to University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center with a gunshot to his right arm that detectives suspect came during the encounter with Barriero. He later was transported to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland.

Police said Cannon walked away from the hospital against medical advice and was sought by police for nearly a month before he was found hiding under a pile of clothes in a Kent apartment in January.

Police have charged Cannon’s mother, Machelle Browner, and his sister, Marcia King, with obstruction of justice in the case after they obtained video of the two women picking Cannon up from the hospital and driving away.

Cannon, who is being held in the Lorain County Jail, had been on parole for a drug trafficking conviction at the time of the shooting and has other drug convictions in his past.
