SANDUSKY — Sandusky police believe a 16-year-old boy choked and sexually assaulted a city resident early last week, according to Detective Gary Wichman.
The teenager was taken into custody on attempted murder and rape charges Friday.
Wichman said the victim, who is 30, had invited the teenager to his Sandusky home to play video games on Monday. That was the first time the pair, who connected through Facebook, met in person. Wichman said the boy lives in Lorain.
At some point during their meeting, Wichman said, the boy strangled the older man until the older man passed out. Then the teenager is believed to have sexually assaulted him, police said.
Wichman said police learned about the incident when the man underwent an exam afterward at Firelands Regional Medical Center.
Sandusky police worked with the Lorain Police Department to identify and track down the suspect. The prosecutor’s office authorized charges against him.
Wichman said the boy was booked at the Erie County Juvenile Detention Center.
