Elyria woman charged with prostitution

ELYRIA - Complaints of frequent traffic through a woman’s apartment led police to investigate the area on Tuesday and arrest the woman for prostitution.

Andrea McCallister, 35, was charged with solicitation, prostitution and possession of criminal tools around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at her apartment on the 100 block of Garvin Avenue.

The arrest was the result of a short investigation police conducted after receiving multiple complaints about people coming and going through McCallister’s apartment. On Tuesday, police started watching the apartment and saw a man leaving the apartment. The man admitted to police that he had paid for sex, police said.

Police arrested McCallister and charged her for the sexual acts and possession of criminal tools for a phone police say she used in connection with the prostitution, according to a police report.

According to Elyria Police Capt. Chris Costantino, McCallister was arrested last year in a similar situation for solicitation after police found that she was advertising services online.

“She has a history of this,” Costantino said.

McCallister was taken to Lorain County Jail, where she was held until released on bond Wednesday.
