Elyria blotter: Man charged with cutting copper from utility pole

4:30 p.m. Aug. 18 — Buckeye and Williams streets, Nicholas Montanaro, 23, 200 block Eighth St., Elyria, arrested and charged with vandalism. Police said surveillance video shows Montanaro cutting copper from a utility pole.

Monday, Aug. 18

  • 6:32 a.m. — 500 block Carol Lane, a resident said his $125 bicycle was stolen between noon and 5 p.m. Sunday from his driveway.
  • 7:30 a.m. — 800 block Rosewood Ave., police said they found a bullet hole in the trunk of a car that appeared fresh, but the car owner said it was from a shooting outside a bar about a year ago.
  • 12:36 p.m. — Elyria Police Department, 18 West Ave., a contractor said a home he is building in the 2100 block of Fowl Road was burglarized with 18 door knobs, 18 door handles and 18 bump stops stolen.
  • 7:17 p.m. — State Route 57 near West River Road North, Terrence Randleman, 22, 300 block Washington Ave., Elyria, arrested and charged with obstructing official business, failure to drive in marked lanes and driving with a suspended license. Police said Randleman, wanted on an outstanding warrant, gave a false first name when stopped for an alleged traffic violation.
  • 7:30 p.m. — Second Street near Chestnut Street, Lester Ford IV, 24, 1000 block Barbara St., Elyria, arrested and charged with obstructing official business and cited for littering. Police said they stopped a car in which Ford was a passenger because he threw a plastic wrapper out the window and he gave an officer a false name.
  • 9:31 p.m. — Salvation Army, 167 Cleveland St., police said part of the front window was broken.

Tuesday, Aug. 19

  • 1:09 p.m. — Elyria Police Department, 18 West Ave., a woman said the rear license plate was removed from her vehicle, which was parked outside her job at Mystic Hair Design, 307 Cleveland St., while she was working.
  • 1:27 p.m. — Elyria Police Department, 18 West Ave., a man said $47,840 worth of jewelry was stolen from his elderly parents’ home. He suspects that the home health-care worker taking care of his parents, who recently quit, stole the jewelry.
  • 4:35 p.m. — 200 block Cleveland St., a woman said she was sleeping in her home when she heard glass shattering and saw a dark sport-utility vehicle exiting her driveway. She said she found a storm door window shattered and a pit bull puppy tied to the porch. A neighbor said she saw a woman with a crowbar shatter the window. The resident said she suspects the woman is her boyfriend’s ex-girlfriend and the puppy was his before they broke up. Police said they later questioned the woman, who denied involvement. The puppy was taken to the Lorain County Dog Pound.
