Lorain blotter: Apartment resident says man drunkenly confronted her with knife

5:25 p.m. Aug. 16 — 2500 block W. Erie Ave., Larry Arbaugh, 55, same address, arrested and charged with assault and resisting arrest. A resident in Arbaugh’s apartment building said Arbaugh was in the apartment hallway making a lot of noise and when she opened her door to see what was happening, he swung a knife at her. Police said Arbaugh was drunk and didn’t listen to their commands before eventually complying and being handcuffed.

Saturday, Aug. 16

  • 6:32 a.m. — 3700 block Amherst Ave., a resident said someone smashed the rear window of her car which was parked on the street overnight.
  • 7:36 a.m. — 3800 block W. Erie Ave., a resident said a lawnmower was stolen from his trailer, which was parked in a lot overnight.
  • 1:10 p.m. — 1800 block E. 29th St., a resident said while he was sleeping, someone broke into his apartment and stole two wallets. He said one had $780 in it, and the other had his driver’s license and credit cards. He suspects a former resident who moved out about two weeks ago, but he saw walking in the building Friday night.
  • 1:45 p.m. — 1000 block Leavitt Road, Louise Nelson, 79, 2700 block Ashland Ave., arrested and charged with theft, obstructing official business and resisting arrest. Police said Nelson was suspected of shoplifting, and she resisted being handcuffed and struggled with an officer before eventually being handcuffed.
  • 4:01 p.m. — Black River Substation, 2991 Clifton Ave., a man said his car’s rear window was shattered by a beer bottle thrown over a parking lot fence.
