Man charged with having inappropriate images of children

ELYRIA – An Elyria man was arrested on Tuesday morning after he was seen with inappropriate images involving children, according to police.

Doug Kushen, 44, of Elyria, was charged with three counts of pandering obscenity involving a minor, one count of possessing criminal tools, one count of disseminating matter harmful to juveniles and two counts of illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material at about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The arrest stems from a multiple-month investigation by the Elyria Police Department and investigators from Internet Crimes Against Children, according to Elyria Police Capt. Chris Costantino.

Police started investigating Kushen after receiving a tip from someone who said they saw Kushen with inappropriate, sexually explicit images of children. Kushen wasn’t showing the images to the caller, Costantino said, adding that the caller saw Kushen with the images “inadvertently.”

The investigation led police to Kushen’s house on the 800 block of Hollywood Avenue, which they searched Tuesday morning before arresting Kushen at the factory where he worked in North Ridgeville.

Costantino said the investigation revealed Kushen was, “having contact with juveniles, purporting himself to be a juvenile.”

“He’s somebody that I’m glad we’re able to arrest,” Costantino said, adding that police continue to investigate Kushen’s actions.
