Battery acid spills after train, truck crash in Vermilion

VERMILION – A crash involving a train and a box truck caused spilled battery acid around Vermilion Road and left one man with minor injuries.

Around 11 a.m. Friday, a crash occurred between a box truck carrying batteries and a train on Vermilion Road, according to police. Police are still investigating what caused the crash but said that one man received minor injuries from the accident and was taken to Mercy Regional Medical Center.

The crash spilled batteries and battery acid around Vermilion Road, causing officers to shut down Vermilion Road, Grand Street and Adams Street while it was cleaned up.

The cleanup was being finished around 2 p.m. on Friday.

Police are still investigating the accident.
