Arson charge dropped against juvenile in Fowl Road fire

ELYRIA — A 14-year-old boy has been adjudicated a delinquent in Lorain County Juvenile Court for his involvement in a June fire that destroyed a vacant house on Fowl Road in Amherst Township.

The boy was one of four teens charged in connection with the fire that also destroyed a Corvette and Harley-Davidson motorcycle. A neighbor reported seeing four boys running near the scene of the fire. Investigators ruled the blaze was arson.

Doug Merrill, the attorney representing the boy, said his client wasn’t the one who set the fire.

“My client was there for the initial break-in, but did not participate in the setting of the fire,” he said.

The teen, who is due back in court in September for sentencing, was convicted of breaking and entering, but an aggravated arson charge was dropped, according to court documents.

Charges against the other three teens are pending.
