Man facing charges in jealousy beating

LORAIN — A man accused of beating his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend in a jealous rage has been charged with felonious assault.

Matthew Mahon was arrested Monday. Mahon attacked David Vorell as he lay in bed with Jacqueline Lipps, according to a police report. The assault occurred in the home Lipps and Mahon shared in the 1700 block of North Nantucket Drive.

Lipps said she believed Mahon was wearing brass knuckles during the attack. Vorell’s head was “grossly swollen” after the beating, according to the report. He had two black eyes, cuts on his forehead and nose, and his lips were swollen and bleeding.

Mahon was held at Lorain County Jail Monday night in lieu of a $10,000 bond. He is due in Lorain Municipal Court Aug. 14.
