ELYRIA — When a suspect tried to rob a man with a box cutter blade Thursday, the man put his hand in his pocket, pretended to have a gun and threatened the suspect back, police said.
About 12:30 a.m. Thursday, Ronald Reynolds told police he was with his girlfriend at a motel near Midway Mall when they were approached by a thin, 30- to 40-year-old white man with light hair. The man told Reynolds his car was out of gas at Speedway Gas Station, 710 Griswold Road, and asked for help.
Reynolds went with the man to Speedway where the man pulled out a blade and ordered Reynolds to give him money.
Reynolds told police he put his hand in his pocket, pretended to have a gun and asked the man if he “wanted his head blown off,” according to the report.
The man apologized and told Reynolds he “didn’t mean anything by it,” according to the report.
Reynolds went into the gas station to call police while the suspect ran northbound from the scene. Officers searched businesses in the area but couldn’t find the suspect early Thursday.
