ELYRIA TWP. — A Bay Village man is in custody, accused of robbing the Lorain National Bank branch at 42935 N. Ridge Road about 2:40 p.m. Monday.
Deputies were called to the bank at the intersection with Lake Avenue about a robbery in progress, a dispatcher said.
No one was hurt. The robber ran to a nearby farm field, said Sgt. Daniel Ashdown of the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office.
About 3 p.m., deputies handcuffed Robert Gauna in the parking lot of DeLuca’s Place in the Park, about a half-mile from the bank. Gauna was charged with aggravated robbery and was held without bond Monday night in Lorain County Jail.
Ashdown said a pistol reportedly was displayed in the robbery, but police hadn’t found it as of Monday afternoon.
The bank closed after the robbery. A sign on the front door said it was “due to weather.”
Gauna, 30, is familiar to police. His criminal record includes convictions for felonious assault with a firearm, burglary, drunken driving and criminal damaging. Gauna is due in Elyria Municipal Court today.
