Vermilion man facing assault charge after bar fight

VERMILION — A city man is accused of repeatedly punching another Vermilion man in the face in a Friday night fight.

The fight occurred at Rudy’s Bar and Grill, 5665 Liberty Ave., about 11:45 p.m., said police Officer Steve Kopniske’s report. James Farley, 22, said he and his brother, Brennon Farley, were drinking on the back patio with a friend discussing basketball.

James Farley, who Kopniske wrote had a swollen lip, swollen nose and a large bump and small cut above his right eye, said Jack LaForce approached them and joined their discussion. Farley said LaForce eventually became violent.

LaForce, 24, of the 5300 block of Portage Drive, was charged with felonious assault. LaForce was held at the Erie County Jail on Tuesday night in lieu of a $15,000 bond.

He is due in Vermilion Municipal Court Tuesday. LaForce is the brother of Allie LaForce, a CBS sports reporter and former Miss Ohio Teen USA.
