Argument turns ugly with beer bottle

LORAIN — A man called his friend a derogatory word and then hit him in the face with a beer bottle after a night of drinking Saturday, police said.

David Bellamy, 58, of Lorain, was charged with felonious assault about 9:30 p.m. Saturday near his house in the 300 block of West 23rd Street after Bellamy’s friend, Robert Sharpless, told police Bellamy hit him in the head with a beer bottle.

Sharpless told police Bellamy had been drinking all day and complained about Sharpless’ girlfriend. Bellamy, who was holding a beer bottle, started “poking” Sharpless in the chest. Sharpless pushed Bellamy, who responded by hitting Sharpless in the face with his bottle, police said.

Bellamy was treated at Mercy Regional Medical Center before being taken to the Lorain City Jail, where he was held on a $5,000 bond. He goes to court at 1:30 p.m. June 25 at Lorain Municipal Court.
