LORAIN — A woman who turned herself into police later tried to run from jail when she was told she would have to stay there overnight.
Cariston Edmon, 24, of Sandusky, was charged with escape and served a contempt warrant about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Earlier Wednesday, Edmon came to Lorain Municipal Court to turn herself in on a contempt warrant, thinking she could go to court the same day, according to a police report. A court officer told Edmon she would need to stay overnight in Lorain City Jail and go to court the next morning for the warrant.
The court officer took her to a holding cell in the courthouse and, while the court officer was distracted, she escaped, the report said.
Officers caught up to her and charged her with escape. Edmon was taken back to jail, where she was held without bond Thursday.
