LORAIN — A man who told police he was hurt in a drive-by shooting actually shot himself in the leg, police said.
The man, a 27-year-old Vermilion resident, will be charged with obstruction of official business and tampering with evidence for lying to police.
During the evening of April 9, police went to Mercy Regional Medical Center where the man was being treated for a gunshot wound to the leg, Lorain police Detective Steve Curry said.
The man told police he was in a car with his friends about 7 p.m. at Westgate Gardens, 2943 Leavitt Road. He said another car drove by them and shots were fired. He was hit in the leg, the man told police.
After investigating, police determined the man was lying and had shot himself when the gun he was holding discharged into his leg, Curry said.
