Sister, brother fight each other over baby

LORAIN — A fight ensued between a sister and her brother, resulting in a 2-month-old baby girl being pulled back and forth.

Police were called at 7:37 p.m. Thursday to the 3000 block of Berlin Avenue in reference to a domestic violence complaint in the 3000 block of Fulmer Road.

When officers arrived, they met with Yvasia Watkins, 21, in the 3000 block of Fulmer Road, who said she was assaulted by her brother, Devontae Watkins, 19, of the1000 block of Herbert Drive, Lorain.

Yvasia Watkins explained that she received a phone call from her mother while she was out of the house saying that she needed to go home and watch her 2-month-old niece.

When Yvasia Watkins arrived home, she found her brother, who is also the infant’s father, at the residence. Yvasia Watkins became upset and asked her brother why he could not watch his own child.

Moments later, Yvasia Watkins took the baby into her bedroom when Devontae Watkins kicked open the door and began yelling at his sister while trying to take the baby out of her arms.

According to the report, the two adults began to fight over the infant, pulling her back and forth. To stop the altercation, the sister let go of the infant, but at this time, the brother kicked his sister in the stomach. Devontae Watkins also allegedly “punched her with a closed fist in her chest.”

Yvasia Watkins declined medical treatment. The report did not state if the infant was injured.

Devontae Watkins was charged with domestic violence. He was arrested without incident and transported to the City Jail. Devontae Watkins did not have any prior domestic violence convictions. His sister also filed a temporary protection order against him.
