Charges expected in alleged carjacking, chase, crash

NORTH RIDGEVILLE — An Elyria man accused in a carjacking this week faces multiple charges from Elyria and North Ridgeville police.

Police in both communities plan to file charges against Cedrick K. Lindsay, 20, once he is released from the hospital.

Lindsay will be charged with aggravated robbery by Elyria police in connection with the Wednesday afternoon incident, according to Elyria police Capt. Chris Costantino.

According to police, Lindsay stole a Ford Taurus from in front of a Washington Avenue apartment after confronting a tenant at knifepoint.

Police said the tenant was moving out and putting his belongings into the Taurus when he was approached by a man, later identified as Lindsay, who brandished a knife and drove off.

The vehicle was spotted and chased a short time later by North Ridgeville police, who first saw the car near Center Ridge and Race roads. The brief pursuit ended when the Taurus crashed into a Buick Regal at Center Ridge and Lear-Nagle roads.

Both Lindsay and Sarah Jankovic, 36, a North Ridgeville woman who was driving the Regal, were taken to St. John Medical Center in Westlake.

Patrick Garmone, the hospital’s marketing director, could not be reached for condition reports on Lindsay and Jankovic.

North Ridgeville police plan to charge Lindsay with aggravated vehicular assault and failure to comply with a lawful order, both felonies, and driving under suspension, police Capt. Marti Garrow said.

Lindsay is also expected to face a number of minor traffic charges, Garrow said.
