North Ridgeville man charged with rape of child under 13

NORTH RIDGEVILLE — A North Ridgeville man has been charged with rape stemming from a 2013 incident involving a girl under the age of 13.

Police Capt. Marti Garrow confirmed the charge against Luis Sanchez, 38, who was arraigned Monday in Elyria Municipal Court. Sanchez did not enter a plea before Judge Gary C. Bennett, according to court records.

Sanchez has been in the county jail on $1 million bond since being booked Friday, according to Sheriff’s Department records.

Police filed charges against Sanchez, who works for the Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority, following an investigation into the alleged assault by Sanchez that occurred July 1, according to Elyria Municipal Court records.

Garrow said North Ridgeville police had only been aware of the case for a few days.

Police first received a complaint Friday from Lorain County Children Services that indicated the alleged victim, who attends school in North Ridgeville, had reported sexual abuse to school officials.

She then was interviewed by the Lorain County Children’s Advocacy Center. A brief police report said Sanchez admitted to having committed “a pattern of sexual abuse” against the girl over several years.

Conditions of his bond include having no written, phone or social media contact with the girl, according to Elyria Municipal Court records.

Sanchez is on unpaid leave from his job with CMHA, where he works in the IT department overseeing computers, according to Cortney Kilbury, the agency’s director of marketing and communications.

CMHA’s Police Department also is conducting an administrative review of the charge against Sanchez.

“We’re waiting to see the results of that review” before any other action is considered against Sanchez, Kilbury said.
