Police investigating connection between sweatshirt, shooter

ELYRIA TWP. — Police may be a step closer to identifying the suspect in a shooting that hospitalized an Elyria man six months ago.

The Lorain County Sheriff’s Office is tracking a gray hooded sweatshirt they found near the scene of a shooting on Lake Avenue in early October.

Jared Fenik, 30, was shot by an unknown gunman in the arm and the jaw on Oct. 1 on the 6500 block of Lake Avenue. He was treated at MetroHealth Medical Center and released Oct. 11.

According to Fenik’s neighbors, he was chasing the shooter down the street after the shooter acted suspiciously and started running away. Fenik’s friends and family arrived at the scene just after Fenik was shot and the gunman fled the scene.

Police are investigating the connection between the shooting and a gray sweatshirt they found near the scene. The sweatshirt has a yellow stripe along the sleeves and the letters “S” and “A” on the front. On the back of the jacket, black block letters spell out “Sun Devils.”

The Sheriff’s Office released the information in hopes that someone would come forward with information about the jacket or the shooting. Call the detective bureau at (440) 329-3800.
