ELYRIA — An Elyria woman told police she opened her door for her neighbor Thursday only to have him run inside while brandishing a handgun and threatening to shoot her friend, a police report said.
Damon Battles, 33, of Elyria, was charged with aggravated menacing in his apartment building on the 300 block of Washington Avenue about 2:30 a.m. Thursday.
According to Battles’ downstairs neighbor, Dawn Quinn, Battles came to her apartment and asked her to open the door for him because something was wrong with his aunt in his apartment upstairs. When Quinn opened the door, Battles ran past her and into the apartment with a semi-automatic handgun, the police report said.
Quinn told police that Battles was yelling about shooting “GG,” Quinn’s friend who had been asleep with his girlfriend in the apartment. Battles then ran out of the apartment and upstairs before officers arrived, she told police.
Police talked with “GG,” whose real name is Gregory Tillman. Tillman told police he once was close friends with Battles and they were involved in criminal activity together. Tillman said he was trying to turn his life around and avoid Battles, which made Battles angry, the report said.
Tillman told police that he woke up to see Battles kicking his girlfriend in her back. Battles then pointed a gun at him and said “I ain’t playin with you no more,” according to the report.
Battles is being held at the county jail on a $50,000 bond until his court hearing at 2 p.m. March 5 at Elyria Municipal Court.
