Walgreens clerk rejects would-be robber

LORAIN — A man’s robbery attempt failed on Monday when he tried to rob a Walgreens with a note written on a piece of cardboard, police said.

According to police, it’s the second time in a week that the man attempted to rob a store in the area.

About 5 p.m. Monday, a white man in his 20s wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt, blue hat and jeans entered the Walgreens on 28th Street and Broadway and asked the clerk at the counter for a pack of cigarettes, according to a police report.

The clerk told police she asked the man for his identification and he passed her a note written on a piece of cardboard that he pulled out of his pocket. The note read “give me all the money,” according to the report.

The clerk told the suspect that he wouldn’t let him rob the store, and the suspect ran away without taking anything, according to the report.

According to police, the Walgreens attempted robbery occurred only two days after someone tried to rob a Rite Aid in the same area by handing the clerk a note, police said. He had a knife with him, police said.

The robbery on Saturday also failed and the suspect ran toward Elyria Avenue, according to police.

Police searched the area but couldn’t find the suspect on Monday. They have surveillance photos of both incidents, leading them to believe the same suspect attempted to rob both stores.

Anyone with information about the incidents should contact Lorain Police Detective Steyven Curry at (440) 204-2166.
