Attorney general says 173 sex offenders missing in Ohio

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine is asking for the public’s help to find 173 of the state’s unregistered sex offenders, four of whom are listed as Lorain County residents.

The attorney general’s website contains a database of the state’s sex offenders. The 173 sex offenders who are deemed noncompliant have not registered an address or provided an incorrect address, according to Jill Del Greco, spokeswoman for the attorney general.

Del Greco said the attorney general’s office utilized its Facebook page to inform residents to look out for the offenders and call their local sheriff’s office or (855) BCI-OHIO with tips.

“It’s the law that they have to update where they’re living, and it’s important for people to look at the database and see who’s in their area,” she said.

The four Lorain County residents who do not comply with the law are Calvin Campbell and James Graham III, both of Lorain, Jonathan Chapin of Elyria, and Max Torgerson of Oberlin.

Their crimes include importuning of a sexual nature, rape, corruption of a minor and compelling prostitution, according to the registry.

Del Greco said residents can use the sex offender registry to search for noncompliant offenders, as well as those registered in their area. The attorney general also features one sex offender each month who victimized a child and does not comply with the law, she said.

Del Greco said social media, such as Facebook, has proven to be a valuable tool in tracking down noncompliant sex offenders.

“We do get in tips from the public,” she said.
