Police: Father threatens family with bow

CARLISLE TWP. — A 20-year-old man was arrested and charged with domestic violence and inducing panic after family members called police to report he was threatening them with a bow and arrow while holding his newborn baby.

Six Lorain County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the family’s home on Gondawood Drive at 12:27 a.m. Sunday. Police said Cody Gonda allegedly had threatened to harm himself and others in the residence while holding a bow and arrow and his newborn daughter.

The incident began when Gonda began arguing with the mother of the child, according to a sheriff’s report. Gonda’s mother told police Gonda was bipolar and not taking his medication and he had been angry over problems with the mother of his child.

The newborn’s mother told police Gonda said he had people watching her at work, and he accused her of cheating on him. He then took the baby into the basement and threatened to hurt anyone who tried to take the baby.

According to the report, Gonda made several threats in reference to police coming to the home. He was arrested and taken to EMH Elyria Medical Center for evaluation.
