Lorain man convicted in rape case

ELYRIA — A Lorain County jury Wednesday convicted a Lorain man of rape and kidnapping charges for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman earlier this year.

Terence Maultsby, 51, had denied wrongdoing during the two-day trial, although he didn’t take the stand, defense attorney Anthony Nici said. Maultsby was sentenced to eight years in prison by county Common Pleas Judge John Miradli, who also ordered him to register as a sex offender for life after he is released from custody.

The victim in the case told police that Maultsby, whom she knew as a maintenance man for her landlord, was stalking her. He had been over to the house and sold her friend marijuana and that the three had been drinking.

After the friend left, the woman told police, she went into the bathroom and Maultsby followed her and choked her. He then dragged her into a bedroom and raped her before fleeing, police reported.

Nici said that Maultsby had contended that he had consensual sex with the woman.
