Arrest made in connection with McDonald's bathroom robbery

AMHERST – Police have arrested a suspect believed to be responsible for Thanksgiving night robbery in an Amherst McDonald’s bathroom.

The robbery occurred at 9:20 p.m. Nov. 28 at the restaurant, 500 N. Leavitt Road. Police said a 22-year-old Lorain man was in the restroom when he was struck several times on the head by an unknown man, who stole the victim’s wallet from his back pocket.

On Friday, Dec. 1, police received photos of the attacker and his vehicle, which were circulated by the news media. Information was received, which resulted in the development of a suspect, Pablo Soto, according to a news release.

Police said Soto, 41, of Lorain, admitted to committing two robberies at the Amherst McDonald’s on Nov. 26 and 28. In both cases, the victims were attacked from behind and knocked down while the suspect ran off with their wallets.

Soto, who was arrested on Wednesday, allegedly told police that he performed the robberies to feed his drug addiction. He is on parole for prior aggravated robberies and, during his arrest, he was wearing the same clothing as the suspect in the robbery photos, police said.

Soto is facing two counts of aggravated robbery and one count each of felonious assault, felony theft and theft charges. He was arraigned this morning at Oberlin Municipal Court.
