LORAIN — A city woman is accused of setting a fire in her unit of a home at 842 W. 17th St. on Friday evening.
Ebony Griffith, 21, faces charges of aggravated arson and obstructing official business. Griffith is accused of setting fire to articles of clothing in a bathtub in the bathroom of the one of the apartments in the four-unit building, according to Assistant Fire Chief Dennis Livchak. He said a domestic dispute apparently led to Griffith’s actions.
No one was injured in the fire, which displaced four residents. The fire spread from the bathroom to the attic but was contained in about five minutes, Livchak said. It caused about $35,000 in damage to belongings and to the building, which is between Long and Washington avenues.
Griffith was being held without bond at the Lorain County Jail on Sunday night. Griffith, who has previous convictions for inducing panic and theft, is due in Lorain Municipal Court today.
