ELYRIA — Three teenagers who broke into an Elyria house Monday were caught moments later after neighbors called police.
About 11:30 Monday, a 13-year-old, a 14-year-old and a 15-year-old boy were charged with burglary for breaking into a house on the 1300 block of Bank Street in Elyria, according to Elyria police Capt. Chris Costantino.
The boys had broken into the house through the backyard, according to the police report. When police arrived, they found the 13-year-old near the back door. The teenager told police there were two more boys in the house who had forced him to enter the residence. Police found the 14-year-old trying to escape through the front door and the 15-year-old hiding in the basement.
After searching the boys, police found a prescription bottle belonging to the owner of the house in the 14-year-old’s pocket.
John Gorbey, who lives next door, said the house has been the site of crime before.
“It’s not the first time that house has been broken into,” Gorbey said, adding that the homeowner was away from her house during the break-in.
