Woman reports attempted sexual assault

LORAIN — A Lorain woman who was pulled behind a building by an unknown man on Tuesday narrowly escaped a sexual assault attempt, according to Lorain police.

About 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, a 44-year-old Lorain woman was walking on the 2200 block of Broadway, when she was approached by a white man in his early 20s. She told police that the man was about 5 feet, 8 inches tall, with curly dark hair and wearing a gray hood and gray jogging pants with a blue stripe.

The man grabbed at the woman’s grocery bag and said, “Let me get some,” according to Lorain police Sgt. Buddy Sivert.

The woman told police that she struggled with the man for a minute before he pulled her behind a building in the area and physically assaulted her — punching her in the face and strangling her.

He also told her to take off her pants or he would kill her, she told police. The woman told police she dropped some of her belongings but was able to run to a friend’s house.

When police arrived, they found some of her belongings behind the building but couldn’t find the suspect, Sivert said.

The investigation is ongoing. No suspect had been identified as of Thursday afternoon.
