Suspected drug dealer arrested in Lorain

LORAIN — A month-long investigation into a suspected Lorain drug dealer led to an arrest Thursday morning when police searched the man’s home and found hundreds of dollars worth of crack cocaine.

Jamal Ammons, 28, of Lorain, was charged with trafficking, possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia and criminal tools around 9 a.m. at his home at 1518 West 24th St., according to Lorain Police Sgt. Tom Nimon.

Almost a month ago, Lorain police narcotics division received a tip from Ammons’ neighbors that there was potential drug activity at the home. Police began watching the house throughout the month and found evidence of drug activity, Nimon said.

“It verified the complaints,” Nimon said, adding that people entered the house, only stayed for a few minutes and left multiple times over the course of the investigation.

Police went into the home Thursday morning and found crack cocaine and “drug tools,” including small bags, razors and digital scales, Nimon said.

Ammons, who was in the house with his girlfriend, was charged Thursday morning. His girlfriend was allowed to leave without charges, according to police.

Ammons has a history of drug charges in Lorain dating back to 2003, including a trafficking charge in 2004.

He is being held at Lorain City Jail without bond.
