Browns QB Jason Campbell took loss to Bengals hard, ready to move on to Steelers

BEREA – Quarterback Jason Campbell has moved on from his poor performance Sunday in the 41-20 loss to the Bengals.

It wasn’t easy.

“I was hard on myself Sunday night and Monday,” he said this morning. “I really was hurt by the outcome of the game, because it was a game I felt like we had a chance to win and put ourselves in a really good position.”

Campbell went 27-for 56 for 248 yards, a touchdown, three interceptions and a 44.3 rating. All three interceptions were tipped, but he also missed open receivers and threw underneath too much.

“What happened Sunday is done, is over,” he said. “You can look at it two ways, you can bounce back this Sunday and be like, ‘We’re going to come out and play great,’ or you can continue to hang your hat on that and come out and be flat. With us being in the race right now at 4-6 with a lot of other teams, we need to put this one quickly behind us.”

Campbell sustained bruised ribs Nov. 3 against the Ravens but returned to finish the game. He didn’t scramble at all vs. the Bengals and tried to downplay the impact of the injury, but admitted it wasn’t easy to put the pain out of his mind.

“It was a challenge last week,” he said. “But I feel great. It’s not in my mindset this week. If you’re on the field, you’re healthy enough to play.”

The Browns host the Steelers, also 4-6, on Sunday at FirstEnergy Stadium. The winner stays alive, the loser is all but eliminated.

Coach Rob Chudzinski grew up a Browns fan in Toledo and has been stressing the importance of the rivalry to the young players.

“I will continue to educate them if they don’t understand,” Chudzinski said.

** The Browns put receiver/punt returner Armanti Edwards on injured reserve with an ankle injury. Receiver Josh Cooper was elevated from the practice squad to take his place.

** Chudzinski said rookie defensive back Jordan Poyer, recently added to the team, will get a chance to return punts. Veteran receiver Davone Bess is also an option.

** Inside linebacker Craig Robertson (knee sprain) didn’t practice today and will be evaluated throughout the week. Tank Carder, who replaced him Sunday, would take his spot.

** Receiver Reggie Dunn was signed to the practice squad.
