Browns QB Brian Hoyer to start again vs. Bills on Thursday night

BEREA -- Browns coach Rob Chudzinski didn’t surprise anyone with the announcement, but he made it official this afternoon.

Brian Hoyer will remain the starting quarterback for the game Thursday night against the Bills. Hoyer is 2-0 as the starter, and the Browns are 2-2 and tied atop the AFC North with Cincinnati and Baltimore.

“He played well again yesterday,” Chudzinski said a day after Cleveland’s 17-6 win over the Bengals. “We’ve been able to win those games.”

Hoyer moved into the starting lineup in Week 3 when Brandon Weeden couldn’t play with a sprained right thumb.

Chudzinski said Weeden has been cleared by the medical staff, but he's sticking with Hoyer.

Chudzinski said he’s yet to decide if Weeden or Jason Campbell with be the No. 2 against Buffalo. Weeden hasn’t practiced in two weeks, resumed throwing Friday and has only three days to prepare for the Bills.

Despite Hoyer’s strong effort through two games, which included impressive fourth-quarter drives in each, Chudzinski wouldn’t name him the starter for the rest of the season.

He will continue to go week-by-week at quarterback.

“I’m comfortable where we’re at,” he said.

Chudzinski also said the Browns suffered no new injuries against the Bengals.
