BALTIMORE – Starting defensive end Ahtyba Rubin will miss his second straight game today with a calf injury. Billy Winn will replace him.
The Browns (0-1) play the Ravens (0-1) at 1 p.m.
Rubin hurt the calf in practice before the opener and hasn’t practiced since. He rode the stationary bike and worked with trainers during practice last week and was listed as doubtful on the injury report.
Rubin is a key defender, but the Browns fared OK in his absence last week in the opening 23-10 loss to the Dolphins. The Browns held the Dolphins to a league-low 20 rushing yards on 23 attempts.
The defense did wear down in the fourth quarter, so Rubin’s presence was missed in terms of depth.
The rest of the inactives were also expected: right guard Shawn Lauvao (ankle), quarterback Brian Hoyer, tight end MarQueis Gray, offensive lineman Martin Wallace, defensive end Armonty Bryant and outside linebacker Paul Hazel.
As expected, rookie outside linebacker Barkevious Mingo will make his debut. He suffered a bruised lung Aug. 15 against Detroit and wasn’t cleared to play until this week.
Strong safety T.J. Ward (shoulder) and receiver/returner Travis Benjamin (thigh) are active and expected to start. They were listed as questionable Friday.
The Ravens inactives are: receiver/returner Jacoby Jones, running back Shaun Draughn, offensive linemen Jah Reid and Ryan Jensen, receiver Deonte Thompson, defensive end DeAngelo Tyson and defensive tackle Brandon Williams.
Mingo will play in a rotation at outside linebacker and possibly on special teams.
