Browns coaching candidate Chip Kelly wants decision "quickly"

Oregon coach Chip Kelly is ready to listen to NFL teams interested in hiring him after coaching the Ducks to a 35-17 Fiesta Bowl win Thursday night over Kansas State. But he wants to “get it wrapped up quickly.”

Kelly completed his fourth year as head coach of Oregon, becoming the first coach to go to a BCS bowl in his first four seasons.

“I said I’ll always listen. And that’s what I’ll do,” Kelly said late Thursday night. “I know that people want to talk to me because of our players. The success of our football program has always been about our guys. It’s an honor for someone to say they’d want to talk to me about maybe moving on to go coach in the National Football League. But it’s because of what those guys do. I’ll listen, and we’ll see.”

Kelly reiterated his sole focus was on the Fiesta Bowl, and he would now to talk to his agent, David Dunn, about the NFL possibilities. The Bills reportedly have an interview set up for today, with the Browns slated for today or over the weekend. The Eagles are also extremely interested.

“I haven’t talked yet,” Kelly said. “My agent is outstanding. He knows I want to coach the football team. There was nothing I was ever going to do that was going to distract me from this game, nor was it going to distract the players from this game. I’ll talk to Dave either tonight or tomorrow and see what he’s done on my behalf.”
