Browns Notes

Browns, Steelers scoreless after 1st quarter

PITTSBURGH – The Browns and Steelers played a scoreless first quarter today at a quiet and two-thirds-full Heinz Field.

Cleveland quarterback Thaddeus Lewis has looked good in his first NFL action, but ended a promising drive with an interception in the red zone. He rolled right and threw directly to safety Troy Polamalu at the 16-yard line.

The Browns (5-10) and Steelers (7-8) are out of playoff contention, but Cleveland has a chance to sweep the season series for the first time since 1988.

The real drama surrounding the game concerns the futures of coach Pat Shurmur and general manager Tom Heckert. Both are expected to be fired by Monday, but no announcements have been made.

Heckert was in a good mood before the game, laughing with reporters as he walked by in the pressbox.
