Browns receiver Mohamed Massaquoi was placed on injured reserve with a knee injury that caused him to miss the Broncos game. Quarterback Thaddeus Lewis was activated from the practice squad to provide insurance if Brandon Weeden (sprained right shoulder) can’t play Sunday in the finale.
The move likely ends Massaquoi’s disappointing career in Cleveland. He’s scheduled to become a free agent after the season and isn’t likely to be re-signed.
Massaquoi was a second-round pick out of Georgia in 2009 but never developed into a productive starter. He started five of nine games in which he played this year, totaling 17 catches for 245 yards. For his career, he has 118 catches for 1,745 yards and seven touchdowns.
Lewis was claimed by the Browns in 2011 after training camp. He’s been on the active roster and practice squad since but hasn’t played in a game.
