Browns CB Joe Haden misses practice with oblique injury

BEREA -- Browns cornerback Joe Haden didn't practice today after injuring an oblique muscle early in practice Wednesday.

His teammates were hopeful he will play Sunday against the Cowboys (4-5) in Dallas, but his status remained in doubt.

Haden is the team’s No. 1 corner and would play a key role in trying to stop the high-powered Cowboys pass offense. Dez Bryant has 45 catches for 590 yards and three touchdowns, while fellow wideout Miles Austin has 43 catches for 669 yards and four touchdowns.

If Haden can’t play, Buster Skrine and Sheldon Brown would start, with rookie Trevin Wade as the nickelback.

Haden missed Weeks 2-5 with a four-game suspension for violating the NFL’s policy against performance-enhancing drugs. The Browns allowed 30.5 points per game in his absence and 17.8 with him.

Safety/special teamer Ray Ventrone (hand/calf) and cornerback Dimitri Patterson (ankle) also weren’t at practice. Patterson said he won’t be ready for Sunday.
