Browns QB Colt McCoy's status uncertain with sprained ankle

BEREA - Browns rookie quarterback Colt McCoy has a sprained left ankle that could sideline him for Sunday's game against the Carolina Panthers.

Coach Eric Mangini said he wanted to give McCoy some time to see how the ankle heals and didn't give the extent of the sprain. He said he'd know more Wednesday.

McCoy was hurt on a sack Sunday in the third quarter of a 24-20 loss to the Jaguars but finished the game. He was in a walking boot for his postgame news conference.

McCoy is the third Browns quarterback to suffer an ankle injury this season. Jake Delhomme and Seneca Wallace suffered high ankle sprains and missed a month.

Mangini said Delhomme is "back to 100 percent," so if McCoy can't go, a decision will have to be made between Delhomme and Wallace. Delhomme hasn't started since the opener, and his only other action was Oct. 10 after Wallace got hurt.

He was the third quarterback Sunday in Jacksonville.

Cornerback Eric Wright (knee) didn't have an update on the injury that forced him to miss most of the Jaguars game. He entered the locker room on a crutch but walked out carrying it.

Special teamer Blake Costanzo's groin injury will keep him out at least this week, as Mangini said "it doesn't look good."
