Browns blow lead, lose 24-20 to Jaguars

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Browns let the Jaguars hang around too long.

And they paid a huge price.

Jacksonville scored with 76 seconds left to escape with a 24-20 victory. Maurice Jones-Drew made the play of the game, taking a screen 75 yards to the 1-yard line with 2:00 left.

He caught the ball on the right, cut back to the left and ran through a slew of missed tackles. Shaun Rogers, Sheldon Brown, Eric King and T.J. Ward were among the guilty parties.

The Browns' last chance came with 1:16 left from the 20-yard line, but they had no timeouts left after spending two after defensive confusion.

Colt McCoy completed four passes, but a deep seam route for tight end Benjamin Watson near the goal line was intercepted by Sean Considine at the 3-yard line with five seconds left.

Phil Dawson, who missed a pair of 51-yard field goals, gave the Browns a 20-17 lead with 2:46 on a 41-yarder. McCoy scrambled 17 yards to the 18 but came up limping. He remained in the game.

The Jaguars tied it at 17 with 3:34 left on a 14-yard pass to tight end Marcedes Lewis on third-and-goal. Lewis got open in the middle against backup safety Bubba Ventrone and dived the last yard.

The game should never have been that close. The Browns forced six turnovers, including four interceptions, but managed just 10 points off them.
