BEREA — The Browns were awarded offensive lineman Paul Fanaika off waivers Tuesday from the Redskins. To make room, the team waived offensive lineman Eric Ghiaciuc.

Fanaika (6-foot-5, 327 pounds), who was drafted by Philadelphia in the seventh round in 2009, spent the first 11 weeks on the Eagles’ practice squad before being signed to Washington’s active roster Nov. 23. He was inactive for five games and active for the finale.

Browns general manager Tom Heckert was the GM in Philadelphia last year and drafted Fanaika, who started 35 games at Arizona State.

Ghiaciuc is a five-year veteran who was expected to add depth to the interior line.

The Browns earlier Tuesday waived running back Jed Collins, defensive back Matt Harris, defensive linemen Jonathan Lewis and Martin Tevaseu and tight end Ryan Moya.

The cuts were necessary to get down to the 80-man limit after the team’s five restricted free agents signed their tenders Monday.
